         Great web page! I am a Louisiana native who lived many years as an adult in Texas (Galveston, Houston and Dallas). Now I live in Parague, the Czech Republic, where I teach English as a foreign langauge. I am using your web site to teach some of my more advanced students about Juneteenth, African American culture and American history. Thanks for a great site!

 KUWAIT

         Greetings, I would like to announce that the men and women of Ahmed Al Jaber, Air Base, Kuwait will be holding a Juneteenth celebration on June 19th.  ITALY

         We are having a Juneteenth Celebration at Aviano Air Base in Italy. Please come out and join us. We will have gospel choirs, dj music, bands, games for adults (dominoes, cards)and children (jumping castle, jump rope, beanie baby bingo), poetry reading and a host of other activities. The festivities begin at 10:00 am and is continuous until 10:00PM. There will be food booths, vendors and art displays.          "Juneteenth Celebration" (Misawa AB, Japan)
Daytime Activities: I. Opening Ceremonies a. Prayer b. Song--"Lift every voice and Sing" c. Reading of Winning Essay; (What is Juneteenth and Why do we celebrate it/) Note: This is a local contest among elementary, junior high, and high school students. (Awards for first prize in each category is a savings bond.) d. Develope a skit depicting events leading to the first "Juneteenth" celebration. II. Open all activities to the general public. (Food, arts & crafts, music and games). III.Closing Ceremonies Nightime Activities: IV. "Showtime at the Apollo" V. Food, Music & Dance at the TOHOKU Enlisted Club (Old School Entertainment along with D.J.Tony and D.J. Trey). This is our first time trying to put together an event such as this.          The African-American Heritage Committee (Naval Station Rota Spain) is planning to host a Juneteenth celebration on 19 Jun 99. This is a first for us, and we could use some suggestions on what type of activities we can plan that are "truly appropriate" for this very important celebration. Please forward information/ ideas we can use to plan our event. Thanks!

 

GERMANY

         "I'm a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, before coming to Germany I was clueless about Juneteenth. But since being an active member, I help put together a Juneteeth Picnic for all the Fraternities and Sororities, in Germany. Now that I see your web site, I will definitly visit everyday! Knowledge is the key!"

 

GUAM

         The Black Heritage Committee of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, will be sponsoring a Juneteenth Family Celebration on June 20, 4:00 - 800 pm at Tropicana Community Activity Center. All children games and activities will be hosted by the Order of the Eastern Star. These activites inclued a "Jumping Jupiter", races, face painting, and contests. There will be a talent showcase at 4:30 pm featuring local children and adult talent. The food will be provided by the Marianas F&AM Lodge. POCs are SSgt Jureka Hightower and Lt Melissa Lacey
